Pink: The New American Color
May 21, 2009
I don’t normally listen to the radio, but yesterday i was driving someone else’s car and it happened to come on…and i was too lazy to stop it. Now that my pathetic excuse is stated, one of Pink’s recent songs came on the radio. Aptly named “So What,” the song has a pathetic, distant similarity to maybe…Dropkick Murphys? The fake celtic melody with retarded (not what you think) punk percussion. Reminds me of a song I know…I just can’t put my finger on it (any ideas?)
Anyway, the most amusingly ironic thing about this poorly pieced together attempt at creating feel good music, are the lyrics. Please take a moment to watch the video below…as unbearable as it may be, try to make it through the end of the first chorus. You may want to sit down. And grab a beer.
Now let’s take a minute to review the lyrics:
Na na na na na na naNa na na na na na
Na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na I guess I just lost my husband I don’t know where he went
So I’m gonna drink my money I’m not gonna pay his rent (nope)
I’ve got a brand new attitude, and I’m gonna wear it tonight
I wanna get in trouble
I wanna start a fight Na na na na na na na
I wanna start a fight
Na na na na na na na
I wanna start a fight [chorus]
So, so what I’m still a rock star
I got my rock moves
And I don’t need you
And guess what
I’m havin more fun
And now that we’re done
I’m gonna show you tonight
I’m alright
I’m just fine
And you’re a tool so
So what
I am a rock star
I got my rock moves
And I don’t want you tonight
Enough enough! phew. Painful, right? Kinda sounds like whitetrash, right? Here’s the best part: if music is supposed to be meaningful, what meaning is being gathered by Pinks 12-17yr old fan base? Wait, i know this one:
Officer: Do you know why you are being pulled over?
Pink Fan: Na na na na na na na.
Officer: Excuse me?
Fan: So, so what im still a rockstar?
Officer: What are you talking about?
Fan: I got my rock mooves. And I dont need you.
-OR-
Caller: Hey I saw the ad for your ‘92 Corolla, is it still available?
Pink Fan: I’m just fine.
Caller: I’m sorry?
Fan: And you’re a tool. So, so what I am a rockstar.
So as you can see, the song “So What” has absolutely no relevance whatsoever, and yet how much money is it making again? Still, some excecs down in L.A. pitched the following:
“Intro. Pink riding a lawn mower down the blvd. Cut to smashing a guitar. Cut to chick sawing down a tree. Cut to bar. Cut to “just married” car bashing, with newlyweds inside. Parked. Cut to stripping. Cut to lighting hair on fire. Cut to the worst green screen of your life. Cut to piss beerpillowfightdarkalleyflames. What do you think?”
Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to America.
Bikely Penngrove Loop
May 20, 2009
If you are looking for a challenging but beautiful bike ride in Sonoma County, look no further than the Penngrove Loop.

I completed the 20 mile jaunt today, through rolling vineyards, enormous eucalyptus and more local farms than you can shake a stick at! Heaven? Maybe. A fantastic ride? Definitely. If you are interested, check out my map below:

WWOOF There It Is
May 16, 2009
About two months ago, i found a decently put together planter box in yard outside the warehouse. I inquired as to whom the lovely piece of carpentry belonged to, and to my delight, i discovered part of an abandoned project from a roommate long, long ago. Upon further investigation, i also discovered enough soil, weed killer, gloves, shovels, and pots to last my small garden endeavor a lifetime (seemingly). A few days later, i bought some seed, invited over a dear friend, and then went to work and planted salad: Lettuce, Green Onions, Parsley, Cucumber, Bell Pepper and Tomatoes. See? Salad, aka lunch forever!
This week, i was overjoyed to discover two full heads of lettuce! Oh my, it was delicious…like the taste hard work and a ton of watering.

My Tomato and Cucumber plants also seem to be doing very well, though i am sure they won’t yield much, if anything at all.

WWOOF!
In other news, WWOOFing is the coolest thing ever. I’m pretty much totally overjoyed to see this available:
WWOOF= World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms
WWOOF’s goals are to provide volunteers with first-hand experience with organic and ecologically sound growing methods, to help the organic movement, and to let volunteers experience life in a rural setting or a different country. WWOOF volunteers (‘WWOOFers’) generally do not receive any financial payment. The host provides food, accommodation and opportunities to learn, in exchange for assistance with farming or gardening activities. A large variety of people volunteer through WWOOF, from vacationing students to those who are interested in starting organic farming or organic gardening for themselves. WWOOFers range in age from teenagers (or children with their parents) through to pensioners. Likewise the farms can range from a private garden through smallholdings, allotments, to commercial farms.

Bon Voyage mi amor!

“Unplanned” Screening at The Red Vic Movie House
August 10, 2008

SOOOOO… The Red Vic Movie House will be screening the 10 (or so) films from the 48th Annual SFSU Film Finals next Monday, August 18th at 7:15 and 9:30.
I was the cinematographer on Unplanned, Gairo Cuevas’ MFA short, starring the lovely Bianca Vidal and the talented Matt St. John. We shot Unplanned in January of last year, and it was one of the funnest sets i have ever worked on. Every person in the crew was committed to quality filmmaking and having fun. I think people get too serious on set sometimes and Unplanned (despite it’s often heavy subject matter) was a testament to how awesome filmmaking really is, especially considering the fact that the collective that has formed as a result of Unplanned (and others) has been gaining notoriety all over the internet in short form filmmaking (Homesick Fan, Tiger Cop, Rising Dead.)
Hope to see you there!! <3
